For your family

There is more than one side to a family’s story.

A family can share a home, a history, or responsibilities and still experience the same situation very differently. Changes in relationships, routines, parenting, or expectations may leave people unsure how to talk with one another.

Kimberly Boatner, LCSW, CADC, provides family therapy in St. Charles. Families from Geneva, Campton Hills, and surrounding communities can ask about availability and whether the practice fits their concerns.

Questions that may bring a family to the office

  • How can we talk about a concern when conversations keep becoming difficult?
  • How are changing family roles affecting each person?
  • What support is available when parents and adolescents feel disconnected?
  • How can we begin discussing a separation, loss, or other major change?
  • Who should participate in a first family appointment?

You can bring uncertainty to the initial conversation. The office can explain the process before you try to organize everyone’s participation.

Start by asking who should attend

Family therapy does not mean you should automatically bring every family member to the first visit. Ask Kimberly who should attend, what information is needed, and how the first appointment will be arranged. When minors are involved, the office will clarify consent, signatures, and parent or guardian participation.

Practical details matter too. Confirm the appointment time, the session arrangements, the fee, and the office’s process for communicating with more than one participant. You can ask these questions without sending a detailed family history by text or ordinary email.

Family, couples, or adolescent therapy?

Some concerns overlap. If your main question is about a partner relationship, couples therapy may be a useful service to ask about. If you are looking for an appointment for a teenager, start with adolescent therapy. The office can help clarify which appointment to discuss; you do not have to choose the label on your own.

Fees, insurance, and registration

The self-pay rate is $200 per 60-minute session. New-client intake and assessment is $250, including the first 60-minute session. The practice accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield, cash, credit cards, HSA cards, and Zelle. Confirm your specific insurance benefits and payment arrangements with the office.

Before a family appointment

What if not everyone is ready to participate?

Ask the office how to begin. Participation and the appropriate appointment format need to be discussed for your family’s situation.

Do we each fill out a registration form?

Ask which participants need to complete the New Client Registration Form and who may sign. The office will explain the requirements before the visit.

Can we discuss how privacy works?

Yes. Ask how information, communication, and privacy are handled when several family members participate. The office can explain its policies and what applies to the arrangement being considered.
