You do not need to know the name of a treatment or have a clearly defined goal before asking about therapy. You may be looking for space to work through something privately, a better way to talk with a partner, or support for a teenager or family. The first inquiry can simply describe the kind of appointment you are considering.
Kimberly Boatner is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Her professional background includes residential and outpatient care and private and public education settings.
One-to-one support for adults navigating stress, life changes, emotional concerns, and relationship questions.
A place to discuss communication, recurring disagreements, connection, and changes affecting a relationship.
Support for conversations and concerns involving family relationships, expectations, and transitions.
Support for teenagers and questions about school, peers, emotions, and family life. Ask the office about age range and fit.
A starting point for discussing concerns about alcohol or other substance use and whether this practice fits the support being sought.
Start with who is seeking support: you, you and a partner, a teenager, or members of your family. Then share a short, general description of the concern. The office can clarify the next step without requiring a detailed personal history in a text or email.
It is also reasonable to ask about scheduling, cost, privacy, and what the first meeting involves. An inquiry is an opportunity to gather information; it does not require you to have every decision made.
The self-pay rate is $200 per 60-minute session. New-client intake and assessment is $250, including the first 60-minute session. The practice accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield, cash, credit cards, HSA cards, and Zelle. Confirm your specific insurance benefits and payment arrangements with the office.
